Site Size & Condition: Ancient Village Ban Muang Don (บ้านเมืองโดน - Pronounced: Baan Moo-ang Don)

Located in the far north of the province close to the border with Khon Kaen, satellite images of the village of Muang Don show elongated reservoirs along its east and west sides along with traces of a similar feature discernable to the south. The northern edge of the village is bordered by a rectangular reservoir measuring 200m x 400m and aligned to some 75 degrees. (We're unsure as to the name of the reservoir which for now is listed separately as T30215.)

We would suggest that the narrow reservoirs on the east and west and traces to the south correspond to an ancient moat which would then have enclosed a roughly rectangular area of approximately 400m x 700m. It is tempting to see a Khmer rather than Dvaravati influence in this more geometrically shaped settlement although as the embankments and moat are difficult to confirm with any precision the exact form of the original settlement is unconfirmed.

The village monastery, Wat Ban Muang Don, situated immediately south of the reservoir may house some vestiges and/or a possible tuol but this is also unconfirmed and requires on-the-ground verification. No additional sites or vestiges are reported from the village.

Straight routes connect with the neighbouring circular settlements of Samrong 1.5 km to the south and Ban Nong Khu 2 kms west.
